Custom Card Game Application

At a glance

Since Dusseau and Co was founded in 2018, we never thought we would have to develop a game for any reason. We never thought we would do it, but along came a special client, and we soon found ourselves developing a game for the first and, most likely, the last time. Kurt's story ticked all the boxes for us if there was a special reason to do something for the first time.

Kurt is a founder with an intriguing story. He was just 15, a sophomore fullback for the South Terrebonne Gators football team with a bright career ahead of him, when on the morning of September 29, 2008, he suffered a stroke. Kurt collapsed in the bathroom, where he was found by his younger brother and rushed to Terrebonne General Medical Center. He spent up to 24 hours in the emergency room before being transferred to the Children's Hospital in New Orleans. The doctors discovered the blood clot locations in his brain, and he was again transferred to Ochsner Medical Center, where a procedure to restore blood flow to the damaged areas was carried out on him. You can read the rest of Kurt's story here

While the medical procedures carried out on Kurt were enough to save his life, he never fully recovered in some aspects, especially as regards auditory functions. But that was one of the things that made Kurt's story a special one. Despite his challenges at such a young age, Kurt didn't just throw in the towel. He got on with life, made new dreams, and chased them with full vigor. Kurt became a founder. He wanted to build a one-of-a-kind family game and contacted us. We got to know his story and found it inspiring enough to spur our team into action. At Dusseau, we are committed to giving everyone a chance to build a startup, and Kurt was not going to be different.

The Situation

When we connected with Kurt, it was obvious this wasn't going to be one of our usual projects. It was a challenging project for the team, pushing our boundaries and principles to the fullest. For one, we had to devise an alternative way of gathering information on the project. As this was the first time we had to work like this, the project took a little longer than most to kick on. Our four-month timeline for building the first version of a product was extended to sixseven months.

The Result

Despite all these, it was a rewarding experience for us. In building this traditional family game, we gave Kurt, his friends, and family members another way to connect and have fun from wherever they may be in the world. Besides the game, we also built a meaningful relationship with an inspiring founder and reinforced our belief that everyone deserves the chance to realize their dream of building a startup.

As we work towards delivering a new version of this awesome game, we hope to include some new cool features.
